Alongside cigarette adverts, it's one the most strongly regulated products in terms of advertisements.
In some countries, the advertisement of alcohol on television is completely banned. Five examples are Ukraine, Kenya, France, India and Norway. The adverts are also banned from appearing on billboards.
Due to Islam being the state religion in Malaysia, alcohol advertising in banned on radio and television before 10pm. As such other neighbouring countries won't show alcohol adverts during Malay language programs.

Peter Kay was once part of a promotional campaign for John Smiths. In one of the adverts he is seen kicking a football around with a set of professional players. This has subsequently promoted the common belief that he is a football fan. He isn't. He also considers himself teetotal.
