Kel McGowan is Kelligrafie
Day 10: Pick a one-line song lyric to serve as an epigraph to your poem. Then, write the poem to accompany it. The poem need not be directly related to the song.
The song I chose for this (and I had a really hard choice - my MP3 player is obviously packed with amazing tunes) was Professor Green featuring Emeli Sande - Read All About It. I could've chosen Emeli's own version of this, which is equally beautiful but I heard the Professor Green one first and there's something really powerful and honest about what he says. He's talking about how the media are always twisting stuff against you when you're in the public eye, but I think the idea of being misinterpreted or people forming misinformed opinions of you is a really universal theme that we can all relate to. I was only supposed to use one line from the song but I thought the second little bit just finished off the poem nicely.
My life just became yours to read and interprate
Sit there with your preach
Mascarade it as a 'teach'
Pretend you're giving me a lesson in living
But you're always taking, always faking
A veil of crocodile tears
Won't disguise your inward leers
I throw fits when I read how they word things
I will smash your daily mirror
Enjoy the seven years of bad luck
